The Leaside Community Festival is a new ongoing initiative of True
North Foundation to provide a positive interaction between creative
artists and musicians within their community.
The 2010 edition of the festival featured 3 concerts
held at the Leaside Library in November. The first concert was a
collaboration with the choir of the Anglican Church of the
Transfiguration and the Boreal Orchestra, directed by choral
director John Sigerson in a program featuring the first and last
masses of Mozart, including movements from the famous Requiem Mass
K. 626. The second event was a concert of chamber music, featuring
pianist Satoshi Matsumura in recital as well as with members of the
Boreal Orchestra in a performance of Brahms Piano Quintet in F
Minor. The last concert of the festival combined the Boreal
Orchestra and Seniors Choir in a program of Bach and John Dowland,
followed by Canadian classics with the choir being directed by Rudy
Koren.
True North Foundation gratefully acknowledges support
from the Toronto Public Library, the Anglican Church of the
Transfiguration, St. John's Music and their generous donation of
tympani, and support of the Boreal Choir funded in part by the
Government of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors Program. |
