Since human beings are part of nature, the natural world reveals to
us its specific local beauties, reinforcing a distinct sense of
place through this relative coexistence. In time, season, and
location, it presents us all kinds of unique forms, textures, and
colours. This context is the powerful basis for a gradually evolving
social consciousness of local identity and culture, that
historically has been tapped over millenia as a source of
civilization.
In recent years, this local voice has been increasingly obscured in
a rapidly changing and interconnected global marketplace. Here in
Canada, we have a long established post-colonial tradition of strong
influences from other countries, and at the present time is this
issue more challenging than ever. It is within this context that
True North Foundation was created to foster a specifically Canadian
sense of identity and place through an advocacy of the creative arts
both at home and abroad. |
